Celibacy schmelibacy

Back when I was with Le Frenchie, I spent quite a bit of time if France. Lovely country as they say- shame about the people. But I never quite understood how all the women in the glossies were always listed as célibataires. I knew the French had a reputation of being very open with their sexuality, but I wasn't expecting it to be discussed in conjunction with absolutely everything. And I definitely did not expect everybody to be celibate. Eventually I learnt enough French to realize they weren't celibate, they were single (célibataire= single).

Well, these days I'm both. I finally came off the Pill. Which means that at least part of me has accepted that The Man won't come knocking at my door after all, followed by us falling into each others' arms in passionate embrace and spending the next 3 days in bed. It would however, also seem that I don't think that will happen with anybody else either. Especially in about 3 weeks when the hormonal change-induced acne will set in (because I just don't have enough on my plate already...)

But I just read that being on the Pill somehow messes women up (not by turning them into weight-gaining, moody, irrational monsters completely at the mercy of our hormones- that we knew already) by changing our preferences in men. Apparently when we're off the Pill, we tend to go for completely different type that we otherwise would and coming off the Pill might actually not find ourselves attracted to the man we're with.

So, look out world. Who knows who or what I'll end up going for...

  1. Post-Pill acne is a massive pain... I should know. It was at it's worst when my brother's middle child was born. She's now 4 and my cheeks are still scarred. My vanity is one of the reasons why I'm scared to try hormonal contraceptives again.

  2. Christ. I just went from cynical to worried to scared to terrified. Perhaps I'll just convert to Islam and don a burqa?

  3. My skin scars if someone looks at it funny, so I wasn't so lucky there. Honestly, it turns out my skin is stupidly fussy when it comes to being handled and picked... Just don't pick at your spots (if you end up having any) and you'll do better than I did.

My aesthetician also said that scars take longer to heal if they're exposed to a lot of UV radiation, so slap on the spf. This is particularly true if you're using something like retin-A or a serum with a high vit C content (like I am) to treat scarring.
